Change is on the horizon as Janina Innes, a long-standing pillar of the caravanning community, steps into her new role as President of Caravanning NT. Janina’s appointment is not the beginning of her journey in this industry; rather, it’s a well-earned progression from years of hands-on experience and visionary leadership at Noonamah Tourist Park.
A Leader with Deep Roots
Janina’s roots in the NT run deep. Her family relocated to the Northern Territory in 2005 after years of seasonal work in the Top End during the early ‘90s. Hailing from a farming background in South Australia, they soon acquired the Noonamah Tavern. Behind the Tavern lay a vacant block containing an old 1950s four-room motel and an outdated ablution block. Recognising the growing interest from both tourists and locals, Janina’s family transformed the site into a caravan park, opening its doors in 2010.
Originally, the park featured the old motel rooms, three rented cabins, and 28 powered sites. In 2014, Janina transitioned from the Tavern side of the business and took the helm as the sole Director of Noonamah Tourist Park. Under her guidance, the park underwent significant improvements and upgrades. Today, it boasts eight cabins, four fully renovated one and two-bedroom villas, eight budget-style rooms, 22 powered sites, and 20 unpowered sites—a true testament to her commitment to quality and guest experience.
In 2022, Janina and her partner further expanded their portfolio by purchasing the Darwin Boomerang Motel and Caravan Park. The two parks now complement each other perfectly—one offering a serene rural escape and the other providing urban proximity to the Darwin CBD.
Leading with Vision and Experience
Janina’s journey from managing a family business to steering a successful tourist park is a story of perseverance, innovation, and community spirit. Her deep ties to Noonamah Tourist Park have given her an intimate understanding of the industry’s challenges and opportunities. Now, as President of Caravanning NT, she is committed to providing a platform where our members can share experiences, gain valuable insights, and collectively drive growth and longevity within our industry.
Her goal is clear: to create pathways that enrich every park with knowledge and support, ensuring that our Association continues to deliver the best experiences for visitors exploring the beautiful Northern Territory.
Continuing a Proud Legacy
After an impressive 35-year tenure as president, Brendan Heenan has decided to pass on the reins. His remarkable contribution to Caravanning NT has helped shape a vibrant and welcoming community for caravanners across the Northern Territory. Although he has stepped down from the role of president, Brendan isn’t going far—he will continue to lend his considerable expertise as treasurer, ensuring that his valuable experience remains at the heart of the organisation.
A Future Built on Collaboration
Janina’s appointment marks a new chapter for Caravanning NT. With seasoned industry veterans like Brendan Heenan continuing their invaluable work as Treasurer, the board is well-equipped to blend time-tested experience with fresh, innovative perspectives. Together, they are set to strengthen our network, foster collaboration among members, and elevate the overall quality of the caravanning experience across the Territory.
Join us in congratulating Janina Innes on her new role. Her passion, dedication, and proven track record make her the ideal leader to guide us into a future filled with opportunities and continued success.
